There are few areas in England as beautifully
unspoilt and rich in history as Wansford and the
Nene Valley. The River Nene itself attracts boating
of all kinds, and it's easy to see why. The river
has a huge abundance of wildlife, including moorhen,
mallards, swans, grebes and herons. A true natural
haven.
The appearance of the village of Wansford, with
its honey-coloured stone buildings, has remained
unchanged for centuries, and provides much of
the inspiration for the architectural designs
at Waters Edge. But this setting is no mere museum
piece. Wansford boasts excellent amenities, with
three Michelin Starred restaurants within a 30
minute drive.
Nearby Stamford has a thriving contemporary arts
scene, too with the nationally renowned
Stamford Arts Centre offering a constantly changing
programme of music, theatre, dance, exhibitions
and film while the thriving city of Peterborough
offers everything you could want in the way of
nightlife, entertainment, shopping and sport.
With all this unspoilt beauty on your doorstep,
it's hardly surprising that film-makers have
made abundant use of the area to capture the magic
of a bygone age. BBC's Middlemarch and the
film
Pride and Prejudice were all shot in and around
Stamford and
at the famed Elizabethan house of Burghley, while
the historic Nene Valley Railway has featured
in productions from Goldeneye to Poirot.
The perfect location, in every sense
of the phrase.
